General Zod was the evil nemesis of Superman, I mean the "son of Jor-El", in the classic Superman 2. Zod was extremely pissed at having to spend all that time in the Phantom Zone, and had a lot of aggression towards Superman's old man.
Zod, who had his plans to rule the world foiled by a clever deception, is still nursing his wounded wrist, which hasn't healed properly after being thoroughly crushed by a not-so-friendly handshake/squeeze from the man in the blue tights and red cape..
